Something to be Treasured

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.

Matthew 6:19-20

—-///

Have you ever stopped to wonder what treasure really is? What comes to mind when you hear that word? Is it a beautiful chest of gold hidden by pirates as depicted in the storybooks of our youth? It could be jewelry that a loved one has gifted you as a sign of love. Hard earned money at the end of a week of work could seem very treasure like as it is the key to buy even more treasures. Whatever it’s may be that comes to mind it is nothing in comparison to the heavenly treasures that God has given in the eternal life. Even the earthly treasures gifted to the earth by our creator are just temporary. We have things such as a Columbine flower, the sun shining for the first time after a long winter, birds singing in the morning, or that precious moment the trees began to bud. Those treasures certainly point us in a heavenly direction as we stand in awe of our great creator God. Yet they will fade in time. The Word says in Isaiah 40:8,

“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.”

Revelation 21:23 says,

“And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.”

Genesis 1:30 shares that all life, every living thing was given by God.

“And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.”

Ecclesiastes 3 shows us clearly that there is a time for everything and even those song birds and the budded trees shall die.

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;”

If our treasures even the God given earth treasures are nothing more than to be enjoyed in the here and now what is a treasure in eternity? First and foremost the greatest treasure given was the opportunity of salvation through the blood and life of Jesus Christ our savior king. Jesus said very plainly “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?-John 11:25-26 There will always be an earthly death. Just as Jesus died for our sins we too will die yet the kicker of it all is that WE SHALL LIVE AGAIN! The treasure of the life of Jesus lives in us is to literally be alive forever bound with Him in eternity in the permanent and forever kingdom. What other radiant treasures await us in that forever kingdom with our forever life?

If it weren’t enough to simply get to live forever worshipping our king we(the church) will have the great treasure of being married to Him in the most holy of ceremonies of all time. Revelation 19:7-9

“Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.” As a single person this especially perks my ears and causes my heart to beat a little faster! Individually some of us may never get to collect the beautiful treasure of a godly marriage. The white dress may just be a fragment of our imagination. The sting is quickly lightened by the abundant fullness of this treasured promise of the marriage feast of the Lamb! Let us marinate a while in your heart right now. The king of King’s treasures you and you treasure Him in a love incorruptible by time or sway of affections. Ah a treasure indeed!

James 1:12

“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” From my brief study on the subject of crowns there are five types of crowns to be given as a treasure in heaven. The crown of life, the crown of righteousness, the crown of rejoicing, the crown of glory, and the incorruptible crown. I won’t even begin to expound on each one. I’ll leave that for your own personal study. I’ll leave you with this thought. Straighten your back and hold your head high. Imagine the hand of God placing a crown upon your battle weary head. Look around, what is it you see in your heavenly visions? It’s going to be so much more of a treasure than what you or I can conjure up in our human imaginations. I know this one thing, with a crown comes confidence. 1 John 4:17 17 “Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

We love him, because he first loved us.” Christian hold your head high not of your own earthly strength but because of the boldness that is in you from Christ Jesus, aka practice wearing your crown.

There are two more treasures that perhaps should’ve been placed in the beginning but they are so interwoven to my life that I hadn’t thought to place them in the category of treasure. Yet the very fact that they are such a forefront of my life and the life of all Christians shows that it’s a treasure of now and to come! The first one should go without saying and it is the written Word of God. Left for us to have here on earth as the greatest adventure, live story, self help, and life saving letters and communication from our Father. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”- Hebrews 4:12

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” – 1 Timothy 3:16-17

“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4 People through time have fought over this treasured Word of God. It’s been translated over and over and is still being translated to new languages as we speak! It has been kept alive throughout Eve generation and will for eternity!

Lastly although there definitely are more heavenly treasures, is the Holy Spirit who is God Himself left to comfort and guide us while here on earth but for all time. Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. Romans 15:13 says “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” This tells us where our joy and peace come from. If we ever find ourselves lacking of those things it might be wise to evaluate if we’ve pushed the spirit aside and given His room away to something else. “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”-1 Corinthians 3:16

Often we push the Spirit aside in times of trials or temptation. If we would rather call upon Him with all authority He is here as our great defender and comforter.

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.”- John 14:16

I hope you have a little bit better understanding of what a heavenly and worthy treasure is after reading this. Perhaps you(and I) will remember that when our next paycheck comes or when our ever human heart begins to long for the next shiny trinket that will ultimately end up at the Goodwill later. I believe the more we meditate on the things above the closer we are at making eye contact with our Lord. You can’t easily be distracted when your eyes are locked on the God above. When the awe and wonder, beauty and might of our Father and are experienced in our lives, the earth bound things become less and less attractive. One day you’ll realize those aren’t what you hunger to collect because to take your eyes away from the Father for even a moment is more than you can bear. For a moment from His goodness is a moment in desire that can’t be filled with the world.

Lock your eyes on Him and when you must slumber pray as I heard once “that eternity be stamped on my eyelids”.

Blessings and peace,pilgrim Nicci

Psalms 56 :Anxiety and Fear Doesn’t Have to Rule Your Life

It’s not a hard task to flip through the pages of the Word or do a quick google search to find comforting verses to help ease our anxiety and fears. As I have mentioned before there is no end to the plethora of stores carrying signs to place around your home with these inscriptions in the ever popular calligraphy handwriting. These are for sure happy little reminders of what we already know about what the Word says but they do very little good if we don’t know how to apply them to our lives.

Recently when someone in my district couldn’t host our monthly ladies Bible Study unexpectedly I was next up to the task. This is something I greatly enjoy. It blesses me to have the opportunity. However as soon as I heard the news I quickly remembered our topic and sure enough pure panic raced through my veins. HOW TO OVERCOME FEAR AND ANXIETY was what the other lady had chosen and what was expectedly be presented. With only 2 days to prepare I knew I was in no shape to be taking on a subject I’ve been failing so miserably at. Who am I kidding? What is beyond failing at and that’s where you’d find me if the mask I’ve been trying to wear was taken off. Humph! What to do?

I decided if God had brought opportunity to study this topic when I was so completely covered in fear and anxiety then this was His Devine appointment for me. I’d like to share what God presented to me. I’ll preface this with the knowledge that I’m taking the verses David penned from the natural attack of his person and into the spiritual attack that we all face.

Before I go any further grab your Bible and read Psalm 56. I’ll wait….

Take a deep breath and let’s dig in!

Vs. 1 The enemy is fighting us everyday. He aims to prove that God is not worthy of our trust and will fail in keeping His promises.

Vs.2 Sometimes we may feel that we will be “swallowed up” by our fears and anxieties. We feel weighted down by the pressures of this world. We often lay in bed at night, thoughts racing, every which way. When do finally close our eyes, our body physically beginning to shut down, and sleep befalls us, sometimes dreams plague our imaginations leaving us unrested and more likely to be weary for the next days battle. It’s vital to our lives to get the rest we need to function at our best. I know some would have the thought that even a small nap during the day is a sign of weakness but I would suggest that it could be the upper edge we need to finish the days battle strong!

Vs. 3 We as women can all too easily allow our minds to jump from one worry to the next. Let’s look at what the Word says.

Vs. 4 In the end the things we wrestle with are just temporary. We that claim the adoption of the kingdom know there is a time coming when this time on earth will vanish away. Replaced will be a new life and our woes will forever be gone! Satan not much different than an annoying brother who is antagonizing his sister can do no real harm if we call out to our Father to intervene.

Vs. 5 Satan lurks around those of the kingdom, evaluating our words and actions for weak points or secret struggles. The ever twister of truth, he will stop at no point to distract the women (and men) of God from the perfect peace and protection that our Lord offers!

Vs. 6-8

We hear a lot of talk about God knowing the numbers and names of the hairs on our heads. But have you ever considered that each year we shed He has captured and bottled in love? There is absolutely nothing in our lives that our Lord doesn’t know about! He isn’t simply an observer of our sorrows as if kicking back, tuning in to the drama of our lives unfold on a big screen. He deeply cares enough to collect each of our moments. I believe when we weep He weeps.

Vs.9 The Word says “when I cry into the, then shall mine enemies turn back. This I KNOW; for God is for me.” Let that sink in. Close your eyes and breathe in that goodness. Drink in the abundance of God’s love and provision!

Vs.10-11 Because we have the above knowledge we have no reason not to fall on our faces in praise! What more could we want? When we have placed our trust in God’s capable hands we dismiss the lies, accusations, and self pity of Satan.

Vs.12 If you have ever done a study on vows in the Bible, you know they are no small thing. They are binding. So when verse 12 says “thy vows are upon me , oh God.” We know that is binding as well! What better knowledge do we have than to be bound with God in His protection?

Imagine with me for a second. We have been placed into a bullet proof room. The thick door has been shut and the key is now slipped into the keyhole. Now the key is being turned until you hear the distinctive click that lets you know you are safely locked in. The key is now resting in God’s hand and no one not even Satan himself can pry it from your Lord’s hands!

Vs. 13 We trust the Lord with our eternal security. How much more should we trust our lives here on earth to the very person who created us? If we can give Him the unseen of the future, then surely the seen things of now can be kept in His care as well!

Take a moment to flip to Psalm 57:7. It says “My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed:I will sing and give praise.”

What if each morning we as women (and men) of God “fixed” our hearts on God? Placing the key to our thoughts and hearts into God’s hands? Would our days of fear for the future and anxiety in tough moments be a thing of the past? What if fear and anxiety weren’t even an option anymore because we literally didn’t have control over those things any longer because God had taken the key that offered up willingly? AH! Doesn’t that sound nice to let go of the control and in return the fear an anxiety can have no access to our hearts and minds and can’t control us!

We know all too well that just because we know where we stand it will not stop Satan from firing bullets our way. What will change is how we deal with them. We know they no longer can harm us but we have to be active in our new found freedom from harm. Our days are no longer filled with fear and anxiety. So what will we fill them with so we aren’t tempted to reach back for the key again?

Word-Fill your life with the Word. Post it around your house, sit down and read it,and listen to it in the car. Fill your spiritual cup to the brim with the Word! DO NOT NEGLECT THIS!

Praise- Praise the one who created you! Praise Him for taking away your burden!

Rest-Rest in the Lord but also get the natural rest you need. Seriously, get to bed on time or take a nap. Each hour of sleep you miss is an hour of weak moments that Satan can pick at. You need to be strong to endure the day!

Pray- Ask the Lord for a hedge of protection around you. Pray your praises! Pray for others, as you find people to pray for you’ll have very little time to worry any longer!

Go outside- Get your shoes on and go outside. Take deep breaths as you get oxygen to your entire body! Sit outside with your eyes closed. Listen to the birds chip. Soak up all the happy vitamin D!!!!

I have some verses you can look up in that spare time you now have while sitting in the bulletproof room. Additionally I have a small gift to give to to help you have a tangible reminder to “fix your heart on God and give Him the key.” There are 40 small gifts available in a first come first serve fashion. You can let me know of your interest in one by connecting with me via Social media or by contacting me here in the question section.

Lady in Waiting for Her King

This article was originally published in Daughters of Promise Magazine” www.daughters-of-promise.org.

Often you the word expectant refers to someone about to have a child or perhaps get married. In a culture of young women moving to the next chapter of life what does the single woman have to look forward to? Is her existence summed up as a lady in waiting or is there something hidden, something to be doing? Perhaps the life of a single woman is also a place of expecting the next thing: expecting an opportunity to serve, give, pray, live, or even explore. We can be women of action as we anticipate what the Holy Spirt desires of us.

There is something inherent in wanting to be loved, to have a purpose, and to give life. When a woman in our culture gets to a certain age but hasn’t walked down the aisle, made up her home, and had a child, all hope can seem as if it has slipped through the fingers of time. Forever the tickticktick of expectation is looming around the corner. Is there a reason the desire remains but time has seemingly passed?

Love is needed by all and given freely by our Heavenly Father and He guarantees that not a day will go by without affection greater than we can imagine.

This indwelling of the Holy Spirit is what should propel a woman into action instead of being a foreverspinster, waiting in self-pity. A single woman who has received love from the Fatheris able to go forth and share love in a multitude of ways. She can begin right in her home, in her local fellowship, in her community. There are people needing love and compassion in so many different ways. The homeless need shelter and an opportunity to better themselves. The widow needs a friend to walk alongside them. A person that is seeking truth might need a safe place to ask the hard questions of life. Do not underestimate the power of Jesus’s love within you. His love was so great that He died for His people.

Purpose may look different in different situations. What unites each daughter of the King is being guided by the One who knows them more than any other. Who better to design a plan for your life than the very one who gave that life in the first place? Who are we to scoff when God’s plan doesn’t line up with ours? Do we really think so highly of ourselves that we try to boss around God? Even in moments of desperation, we might even have stood so low as to bribe or manipulate God into our feeble plan. Rest assured the Holy Spirit will never lead you into something that was not created for you. That should be enough to have us experience expectantexcitement in whatever we are called to. From the school teacher, to the barista, to the nanny, and even the travel nurses, your purpose is one of the Kingdom. Your marital status has nothing to do with it. The Holy Spirit will not cause you to wait too long before He moves you in the direction He wants you to follow. After all there is a lot of work to be done!

Giving life can seem difficult when the womb is empty, but life comes in so many forms and should not be written off as a gift given only to those that have entered marriage. We, as followers of Christ, have an obligation to bring true life, Jesus Christ, to each and every person that we meet. Do we have to go to Uganda? Certainly not, however if that’s where the Holy Spirit has led then go do it! If you are called to a more local mission, your life-giving power may come in tutoring the neighbor’s child. That consistent interaction may be the only Jesus they will encounter. Life can come forward in the joyful countenance you share withthose you connect with day to day. When you serve others in bringing food to the shut ins, singing to the elderly, having company, doing laundry for a new mother, praying over your community, and so much more you are living a life that produces life.

A single woman has a rare opportunity in adult life that others do not – our prayer life is wide open in a way our married sisters may not have, with the busyness of their family life. It doesn’t mean we single gals aren’t busy, but that we have extra time to pray for those around us. Remember that clock of expectation? Let those ticks be a reminder for the calling of this season of life: tickNeighbortickpersecuted Churchtickschool children….tick sisters in Christtick
Give life to prayer and there is where you will find contentment.

In your time of expectation, you will go through periods of time of wondering what if? I propose that when you replace the what if I was married question with what if I lived my life for Christ, you will not have any time to sit around feeling sorry for yourself. As daughters of the King we must remember the high calling that comes with that and act accordingly. Kingdom life has no room for laziness. There are lives to be won and joy to spread. As you move forward, go with your head held high in the confidence that you are right where God has placed you. There is no worthier place to be!

See That I’m a Follower of Christ by my Actions

This was written in 2016 but I just found it today.

I heard it said something like this. Don’t know I’m a Christian just because I post Bible verses that aren’t just John 3:16. See that I’m a follower of Christ by my actions.

Hopefully by my actions others can see that I’m following Christ. I get lost and take a longer way sometimes but when I catch up my Jesus is still there on the road of life. The worlds view of Christianity is that we are all striving for this euphoric place in the sky. No, the kingdom of God is within each of us. Once we accept our inheritance we then realized that kingdom living looks nothing like world living. Sure there is a Heavenly home that does await us but there is also a kingdom right here and right now! The peace that comes from knowing Jesus is right here within me. Having contentment because I am in constant communication with my God. Oh and don’t get me started on the love! Now I don’t want to paint a false picture here because I’m not perfect. The love you can have for others is overpowering! It’s true that I get so mad at people I want to punch them ( I know not a kingdom living thought) but Gods grace has countless times said to me ” Nicci you stop right now and step into their shoes.” Then you begin to love.

So friends don’t think I’m a “Christian” because I say so. Observe me ( or others claiming Christ) and see if it holds true.

Do you pray? I mean really pray? Are you constantly communicating with God? Not just at meal time or in a preset devotion. It should be as easy as if He as sitting right in front of you.

What is your language like? Do you cuss, scream, or have filthy thoughts come out of your mouth regularly?

Where do you put you glory? Do you give glory to God or do you try to bring glory to yourself? What value do you put on Money, beauty, status ?

How do you treat others? Are you willing to help someone even if it comprises yourself? Do you talk behind people’s backs? Do you even secretly hate them?

Are you submitting to your local church body or even to the laws of this country? Do you put your trust in the leadership at your church? Do you truly believe that God has placed them there?

Where does your money go? Do you think the beggar on the street is just out to get free booze? That single mom down the road from you, do you offer to bring her dinner? Or are you judging her and don’t want to condone “her sinful actions “? Do you spend your money on entertainment or fancy new gadgets but never on another?

Do you have a song in you heart?

Diary post:A Day Worth Waiting For

This was originally written to share with some Christian singles but I think it’s better suited for here. It’s a bit of a diary post.

I’ve been thinking about the bride of Christ today. I want to share something with you, a thought I had oh probably three years ago or so. I was at our love feast and the minister was preaching as he was breaking bread or finishing up either with the bread or the wine. I can’t remember exactly but what I do remember is how I felt as he spoke about the bride of Christ. Right then and there I burst into tears of JOY. I thought “Oh Lord! I may never get to be loved here on earth and get to wear a white dress with my groom waiting in anticipation for me at the end of the aisle. Lord but you are waiting for me and you love me and as long as I live THAT will satisfy me. Your love is enough! Who am I to desire anything more than your affection for me! Lord let me be a pure bride as I wait our wedding day along with my brothers and sisters!” Right then and there I knew without a single doubt that I had value. So much value to my king Jesus. His wedding was the one I could fix my gaze on as a single. I could rejoice with those around me that had an earthly love without feeling jealous or less. It was no longer a Competition or a matter of me being damaged goods. I WAS wanted and desired.

Now after several years of laying down my strong desire to be loved here on earth I’m getting even a small taste of what it is to be loved by my Jesus but here on earth. No,I’m not deserving and I cannot figure out why I am the one who gets to feel a thousand happy butterflies in my stomach each morning or wonder if this pounding my chest will ever end. I have been given something so very special. But even in all of this joy in this adventure of sharing this love together it is incomparable to what it will be like when we are in the presence of king Jesus! How much more will my heart beat? Will it explode from my chest? Will the butterflies escape and encircle us as we are presented to our Father as blameless and perfect?

I admit that after several years of not allowing myself to even consider what an earthly wedding could be like I have allowed myself to slip into this fun dream world where I get to be the earthly bride and my earthly groom is there with love waiting for me. Yet today as I was day dreaming I burst into tears just as I did on that night so many years ago. How rich is it when we as Christ bride prepare for OUR day? Not only in our minds but in our hearts and in our actions? Oh I have a long way to go before I find myself worthy of getting my crown. Honestly I could never be good enough and neither could you! That’s where loving grace comes in. That doesn’t mean we should stop striving for a closer walk with our Lord. Just like my relationship with my Mark, I cannot fully experience it because the miles separate us but it doesn’t make it less real or our love less. How much more should we be in preparation for our king Jesus to become godly men and women as we wait that day of being united together?

Lord I cry out for each person that is waiting for that day! We long oh Lord to see your face. We turn our faces to the sky the only thing bright enough..vast enough to let our imaginations wander of how BIG and bright you are! Oh Lord help us to be prepared as ready. Let us be a pure bride without wrinkles or stains. Lord God guide us as your vessels of use to the lost and dying world. Call the lost and let us walk beside them as a constant support in this pilgrim journey. Loosen our grips from anything here on earth but let our love hold tightly in the name of Jesus Christ our life blood! We lock our eyes on you Lord and we occupy until you come.

Take the Risk

Hi I’m Nicci and I’m in a relationship with a man I’ve never met. Is that a risk, sure. Is it worth it,100% yes!

This is a post that honestly should of been written in my diary..unfortunately I don’t have a diary so you get to read it instead.

Here’s the deal folks I’m someone who processes things by talking it out. I just want to “talk out” something. I was very happy single. In fact it took a bit for me to even wrap my mind around what God was doing in my life. I know that this thing of being in a relationship in such a unique way seems odd to my family and friends. Hey I’ll give that to you all. However thank you for those that have supported this new experience in my life. I never in a million years would of expected to A. Be in a relationship. Or B. Have it come about so radically different than the norm. I can say 100% that this has been a God thing. I have no clue what my tomorrows may hold but in this season of life I am so incredibly happy to see where the relationship that God has stitched together is with Mark and I is at. I truly am getting to experience what it is to be treated with respect, love, and kindness.

I’m all for being absolutely content where God has placed you. However don’t be afraid to take the risk of the unknown…it very well may be God answering those prayers you had laid at the foot of the cross years ago. I know if my tomorrow finds this to be all gone from me that this was worth knowing that there are good godly men out there who aren’t afraid to go for what they want. It would be sad and heartbreak would take time to get over but not because the pain wasn’t worth it. Rather because the blessing is so rich! Something I also want to encourage women of all ages is to first view your man as your brother in Christ. This will make your relationship that much more rich. Take time to get ask those hard questions and be willing to answer them yourself honestly. Get into the Word together and don’t shy away from praying for each other together and separately. It’s not a cheesy suggestion but rather something that can bloom organically as you seek the will of the Lord. Something I wouldn’t trade for the world is the fact that all Mark and I can do is communicate. This special time of just getting to know each other is more than going to get coffee or dinner. It’s an act of intentionality that has helped us get to know each other in a purposeful way.

Get yourself a Mark..just not mine.

“Cause you are sweet and I am chunky “

Snippet:Don’t Be Content With Darkness

There is light and there is darkness. Contrary to popular belief you won’t find a middle ground between the two. It doesn’t matter if you went into the water and came out sopping wet. This thing called church membership and community living has absolutely no value without the Holy Spirit causing the old man to be laid off and new life to spring forward.

Which side do you find yourself on? Do you sit in darkness but look nice on the outside, content to look nice and catch a few of the church life benefits? Or rather do you live a fulfilled life in the kingdom reflecting the light, life, and love of the Lord Jesus Christ?

Do not be pleased to be hypocrites. The world will call the pretender’s bluff and rightfully so. The truth will be found and judgment will come when the bridegroom comes for His perfect bride spotless without blemish or wrinkle. He will not be content with an unlit soul insiders a dead body.
